Lou Marquès - Réserver une table

We have a second home in France always look forward to eating here each year. The restaurant has always provided the very best of everything- it is warm welcoming, the food is delicious with great attention to details the service is impeccable. Our dinner here last night was the opposite- it was substandard in all areas. We arrived they couldn 't find our reservation (I had received several reminders on my phone thru out the day re the reservation for that nite). The young man finally said oh well, we 're not busy anyway showed us to a table where he left us w/out a menu or offer of an aperitif. We sat 10-15 mins someone brought us a menu but again left before we could request water an apero...

We had discovered this restaurant in 2006 while visiting Arles. We stopped in Arles in June 2019 wit a specific purpose of eating at Lou Marques. We will never stop again. From black tie service, waiters wore polo shirts, OK for a fast food place. The welcome was impersonal almost rude. A bunch of Roms were hanging around the garden in front of the dining patio and tolerated. The langoustines as starters were raw and tasteless in a sad looking plate. The lamb was overcooked and hard. The côtelette had a piece of dry meat the size of a dime and the shoulder cut, overcooked was dry and chewy. We asked for the bill (165 euros) and took off. Were staying at the hotel and decided to give a try to the restaurant for our last night. One of the criteria was large space and A/C due to heatwave and highly dense restaurants in the city. We do not regret our choice all the more food was good with a very pleasant service and interior deco. Did not give a 5 because bull meat that my wife took came too dry and then almost raw when changed ... Guess she was simply not lucky. Other than that, kids menu was excellent (not the usual nuggets or cheapo burgers you get almost everywhere). Same with starters, desserts and the risotto with prawns I personally got. Very decent pricing for a 5* hotel dining experience.

Sadly I didn't eat at Lou Marques for a few years. Shame on me. A recent dining experience was simply fabulous. For me this is the best restaurant in all of Arles. Classy and stylish surroundings, attentive service, a chef who is willing to make an extra effort for guests with allergies. The risotto with langoustines alone is worth the trip. All dishes are dressed to please the eye, large enough servings, before a mouthwatering experience. Wines are a bit pricey but then i shouldn't drink that much (says my wife). I'll be back real soon.

Restaurant Lou Marques ArlWell, avoid Lou Marques if you do not wish to be food-poisonned ... Should have sent back to their kitchen chef what the served me as the call 'veal '. What a bad experience ...
