The restaurant is small with a large outside section that is full in the warmer weather. I speak French fluently and I asked the owner and his wife if I could get a table for two. I could see that it was probably full. They asked if I could wait twenty minutes, so we sat outside and I asked the lady for a beer and a glass of wine. Before I had my second sip of beer, she came back in five minutes and said that she would get us a table. We sat down in the back corner and there was a couple at the table next to us. The woman had a mink coat and the man (French) complained incessantly to the owner that they did not have a vestiary in the restaurant where they could put the old lady 's fur coat....
Was blocks away from the hotel and had steak tartar made at the table--that 's what they are famous for. When I arrived, the restaurant was busy and the waiter took no time with me on my menu selections, but did recommend a disappointing wine. Courses were literally thrown on the table, which, by the way was uneven and caused half a glass of wine to spill, which was never cleaned up. Much attention was given to French diners around me. The steak tartar arrived--already made. The waiter disappeared so fast I didn 't have time to question this--and he never gave me another glance until it was time for dessert didn 't order . I did ask him then why he didn 't make the tartar tableside as advert...
We had breakfast here a few times when we were staying nearby. The coffee and pastries were great and we sat outdoors in the sunshine (a big bonus as it was March) and enjoyed the fabulous views of the Place des Vosges which is one of the most beautiful squares in Paris. The croissant and pain au chocolate were only €2.50 which we thought was great value for being served in such a beautiful spot. Highly recommended and we'd return here any time we are in the area.
