Madcap in San Anselmo is a jewel. Near one of the cute commercial areas, parking can be strange to find if their small amount is full and you don’t know where to look; the wise are a pain. Eating was usually fantastic, just the right amount. Extremely seasonal, well executed, just a hint of inventiveness. Leans strong on seafood. Only for me was the Ribeye course. Only the problem we met was service. While the overall service was efficient and competent, our main waiter was significantly new in the statement of the dishes, very durable, mostly just trying to remember unforgettable lines. Definitely put a damper on the charm, the plaster of the meal. Overall, however, much a 5-star establishment. The service-hiccup would certainly drop it from a Michelin 1* in my book, but maybe it was a rare aberration, and everything else was Top Notch. Surely a very solid offer at $125 will give you much more value in terms of San Francisco or wine country equivalents.
Disappointed by the fact that I let them know three times before my reservation that we celebrated a birthday, and also at some point discreet during dinner, and they forget to bring the candle even though they had assured me on the phone that they would. If you travel to the restaurant for 1.5 hours and save up to dinner there, you would expect a little care for every customer. When we arrived at the restaurant, a woman welcomed us cold and did not even recognize our reservation. Apart from this element that dampened my time there, Madcap has a large record collection that significantly improves a food experience! Your dishes were beautifully presented, and most of them had their products? Tastes strengthened instead of masked, which was a strong positive element. Our waiter was thrilled. If not for birthday mimicks and hostess unfriendliness, I would certainly recommend them more.
