The grocery store is mediocre at best. Many of the things can be found in other Asian grocery stores near Philly, and I found quite a few items very overpriced. The restaurant/food section is a real disappointment. We got karaage chicken and takoyaki, and they just don't taste fresh and just taste like frozen food you got from the grocery store. The katsu don is very sad looking, and the tonkatsu is so dry and the batter is not crunchy or fresh at all, even though we got all the food for here and ate it right away. There is also no flavor in the katsu don besides grounded pepper. The yakisoba is good! We both like the flavor, and it's a good portion of noodles. Service is excellent from both the restaurant and the grocery store. Very good staff, and they seem happy working there as well. Overall, the place seems very overrated. The grocery selection is not great (you can get a lot more in any H mart in Philly, for example), and the food it just a disappointment. This place perhaps has little or even no competition in the area, but people at Ardmore deserve better.

Service and food has gone downhill (note review is for restaurant only/not the marketplace). Young black man working as a cashier. Very rude. He chastised a young couple next to me for being polite and returning the tray back to the counter and to me for grabbing napkins while he was busy checking his phone. He also mumbled and multiple customers couldn't understand him thru his mask/sullen attitude. Onomiyaki was soggy this time and served on a cheap paper plate. Worst yet was an overweight middle aged white dude who was cleaning tables. Tried to polite and say hello to hims. He grunted and ignored. Huge change from the past when friendly Japanese ladies took your order and food was served on actual plates. Never again.

I specifically chose my apartment based on how close it was to maido. I go at least once a week : love it here. This place has so much to offer and there's so much you can miss on your first visit that I didn't even realize they had until I started coming so often. Really great hidden gem that I'm so lucky to have in this community.

I've visited Maido twice, and had a good experience both times. Staff takes health and safety very seriously. The restaurant takes utility into account, but it's still a place you could sit down and have a nice conversation with someone. I tend to get the tempura, which is very good.
