very disappointed. had been a couple weeks ago for Sunday dinner and really enjoyed it, but this time everything was a total disappointment. ordered a beautiful weeping and waitress asked if we want to pour it! we poured it ourselves. the starters were ok, but one of the most important courses was terrible. to be fair, we were not charged for it, but the whole experience was really not pleasant. we went to eat and that was not definitiw.
We went for Sunday roast on Boxing Day and both of our meals were large portions and delicious (1 beef and 1 pork belly). The service was quick and extremely friendly. However, there were two downsides: my wild mushroom and chestnut dish was not very enjoyable or tasty. Secondly, if Rick Stein can serve high-quality wines for less than £30, then a pub/restaurant should be able to do the same.
Very disappointing after previous good visits. Long wait for initial drinks, starter not great, especially for £11, both mains arrived with incorrect sides and no staff around to follow up and correct the error. Didn’t make a fuss at the time as was a special occasion bug not sure we will be rushing back. It’s not cheap which is fine if food and service are too notch but it wasn’t. Shame.
Boxtag? No Christmas party. The fireplace was not lit. The manager was unfriendly. We had to ask for water twice. The disappointing roast came without Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was bland and thin. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
