Maketto was fantastic. The unassuming exterior hides a simple but ultimately lovely interior and a courtyard. Every dish we had, we enjoyed. Of particular note was the Red Curry Sea Scallops, which reminded me of meals in Phnom Penh. The Strange Flavor Eggplant and Sourdough Scallion Pancakes are also favorites, and don't miss the Egg Custard Tarts that are as good as the finest Parisian creme brulee. The staff are helpful and attentive while not being obtrusive. They took the time to explain the menu for those who weren't familiar and help set expectations on dish sizes if perhaps too conservatively. The dishes were almost all larger than expected and we had enough for a wonderful second me...
We'd been hearing about how great this place was forever and finally got a chance to try it. This restaurant absolutely deserves its place as one of the NYT's top 25 in DC. The gruyere dumplings were life-alteringly delicious and we truly enjoyed the pork bao. The Mochi beignet were so delightful (the lemon curd paired so perfectly!
Their food is great. We ordered a small cauliflower, a medium salad, and a large fried chicken. The chicken is juicy and tender with a very crispy taste. Salad is refreshing and mixed well with different ingredients. Overall very large portion and may recommend only order one medium and one large for two person.
Absolutely incredible. I am vegan while my boyfriend is not so it is difficult at times to find a restaurant that will cater to both of us. Maketto was the perfect spot for our night out. Get the scallion pancakes! 10/10!! Will definitely be a spot we return to the next time we visit DC.
