Makomae is a hidden gem of a Japanese restaurant in Diamond Bar. We went for my bday) dinner on a Wednesday without a reservation and there was about a 20 minute wait, so not too bad. Here's what we recommend: Premium chirashi bowl $34.95): this was amazing value. There was chutoro, uni, amaebi, salmon, tuna, and a whole lot more in this bowl. We even got the fried shrimp head on the side with it. Fish was amazingly fresh and we were very impressed! It's a must try! Salmon skin salad $11.95): another dish with amazing value. Makomae is a hole-in-the-wall authentic sushi and omakase restaurant. Be prepared for a long wait, however, even if you arrive literally when the doors open. The food has always been amazing and the lunch sushi and sashimi combo is always an excellent choice that's so fresh and delectable. If trying to place an order over the phone, you might be calling dozens of times before your call's picked up, just a heads up. The restaurant itself is very small and spacing is very cozy, so maneuvering is not exactly the easiest. Amazing food, but the shop itself can be quite an unorganized chaos.

This restaurant is doubtless one of the most pleasant place to eat in the region. Whenever I come to this place I am truly glad. They manage their high level service and the highest level of meals they provide. You are always happy with this restaurant. Highly recommended.

Amazing Japanese cuisine sushi restaurant hidden in back of strip-mall maze. Call ahead and make a reservation by phone to reduce wait time: it's a small restaurant. Delicious fresh food, and kind waitstaff.
