Well I walked in not really expecting anything. After being told to sit anywhere and sitting at a table with a flower arrangement that had died a few years back we just knew that we wern't going to be blown away. The pasta we ordered was beyond bland. The pasta was not home made and the avocado was old and had that old fridge taste to it. My pizza was tasteless and we had to eat it off the plates we ate the pasta on as the waitress was too lazy to change them for clean plates. For our drink we were offered a 1.25 bottle of coke which we poured ourselves at the table. So I had a coffee from the mama rosa coffee van at the pakenham market. It was literally the worst coffee that could possibly have been made. Firstly the coffee wasn't tampered at all before being extracted which in the end resulted in watery tasting coffee. Secondly I had asked for an extra shot in mine to make it stronger. She showed me the cup after pouring some of another shot into the take away cup, asking if there was enough coffee in there. That's where I realised this lady had no clue on how to properly make a coffee. I stumbled upon this restaurant while searching for vegan options, and I was pleasantly surprised. They have a separate vegan menu with an impressive variety of choices. I enjoyed what might be the best vegan pizza I've had in ages, and without any inflated prices! The crust was soft and had the perfect amount of crispiness on the outside. The toppings were delicious and generous, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I will certainly return!
I ordered calamari, while my dining companion chose the carbonara. We ended up waiting around 40 minutes for our meals, which was surprising since we were the only customers in the restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was not worth the wait. My calamari resembled the cheap, frozen kind you would expect to find in a takeout fish and chip shop – it was chewy and lacked any real flavor. They also use high-quality, fresh ingredients like salami, ham, and bacon, and their salami has that delicious, authentic Calabrese flavor that’s perfect for any pizza topping. The only downside I found was the delivery time, but honestly, I prefer to pick it up myself anyway. One more thing I’d love to see is the classic round egg carton pizza boxes. Overall, I’ll definitely be coming back for more!
Anyone who has been to Italy and enjoyed pizza will appreciate Mama Rosa's authentic cuisine. It's far superior to any fast-food pizza joints. I've visited the restaurant several times with family and friends, and Mama Rosa prepares incredible pasta, lasagna, and seafood dishes. While you might have to wait for some of the meals, all of her food has a homemade touch that makes it worth it.
Service was friendly, however unprofessional and due to underage staff who were unable to serve alcohol it took forever to get a drink. Oysters were served while the waitress was actually talking on her mobile phone. Everyone on our table were dissatisfied with their meals, one steak was still cold.
The decor is a bit dated but fits in quiet well with what I expect of an Italian trattoria. The food is simple and delicious. It is wat I expect to be cooked by your nonna...and low and behold the kitchen is headed by one. The service is prompt and the prices extremely reasonable. Réservez une table maintenant
