I used to frequent the original Marcellinas in Hindley Street during my uni days. It's been decades since I'd been anywhere near Marcellinas and in going back recently it's good to say that some of the basics never change. What has changed is the menu is now more extensive but still manageable. The basics of great pizzas and pasta dishes remain and with the addition of a gourmet line of pizzas there's even more yummy stuff. Service was friendly and welcoming, the place neat and tidy and the wine list more than adequate. This isn't fine dining but it doesn't pretend to be. It's great cafe and takeaway meals. Service is prompt. We had the Adonis gourmet pizza which is a sensation. The garlic bread was crisp and importantly garlicky! The special wine was quite fine and the price was right. If you're out Darlington way the Marcellina restaurant there offers great service quality meals and a casual and a more formal dining area. Great staff there too. I ate there a weeks after thenSemaphore experience.
