Without a doubt--the BEST Fine Dining Restaurant experience in Orange County. When we have a special occasion or feel like treating ourselves special, my wife and I head to Marche Moderne. Our last visit was amazing--as usual, but different. This visit we did the tasting menu and the wine pairing. And while a Michelin-worthy meal like this doesn't come inexpensively, for our wedding anniversary--it was perfection. We started at the bar and our bartenders are just the best. I really hate to write this review because my first time coming here was great and the second experience missed expectations. I wont spend much time on this review, but the bottom line is, service was horrendous. I am not a formal food critic, but I am confident that before every course, the waiter/waitress should provide you with the correct dinnerware. 2/5 tasting courses was spending waiting on utensils to eat the food. Not really an ideal situation, especially when these dishes are meant to be consumed right away. For the value, I would give 3.5 but can't give half stars. I bumped the review because of the amazing service. I do miss the old location in Costa Mesa. Ambience of the location has a French café feel to it. With dim lighting, soft tablecloth, and open kitchen, the place is ideal for a date or an intimate celebration for a small party. I would recommend you get the seating outdoors to the left of the restaurant. Service is fantastic Staff is very knowledgeable. My wife and I enjoyed a sensational dining experience at Marché Moderne! The restaurant offers a refined atmosphere with comfortable well spaced seating. The service is impeccable and memorable. Philippe was a man of magic, offering attentive and detailed service while setting a luxuriously relaxed pace. The tasting menu was tempting but we opted for our own menu selections. The hamachi was certainly a standout as were the braised lamb shank and Icelandic cod. And the heavenly hazelnut macaron panacotta that I would possibly commit crimes for. This restaurant remains one of the premier dining destinations in Southern California. It's not a place I would visit every week; I prefer to reserve it for special occasions, perhaps due to the long drive for me. Nevertheless, the food, drinks, and service are all exceptional. While I will always have a fondness for the South Coast Plaza location, the current restaurant is stunning. It's truly remarkable how the chefs transform every appetizer, entrée, and dessert into a work of art, bursting with amazing flavors and sauces. We ordered the Grilled Octopus with asparagus, which was served on a caramelized citrus sauce. It was perfectly grilled with just the right amount of crunch—delicious! The Dungeness crab cocktail was absolutely heavenly, and the Salt Spring mussels were immersed in a broth bursting with flavor! We also had the roasted lamb ribeye shank, which was incredible—the flavors were enhanced by mint and Parmesan! For dessert, we chose the Chocolate Soufflé Cake paired with Mango Coconut Gelato, and it was divine. We will definitely be back! Next time, I'll remember to order my scotch neat to avoid the $3 charge for ice cubes... haha!

We started with a mixed salad, which was quite enjoyable. For the main course, we ordered a fish soup and an Angus filet with pepper sauce and French fries. The meat was served in a pan, making it difficult to cut, and the fries were disappointing—hardly impressive. Additionally, the pepper sauce was barely there, leaving everything feeling dry. The Bouillabaisse was just average. While the ambiance is pleasant and you can sense their ambition, they unfortunately fall short of delivering a great experience.

I must admit that I found this restaurant to be quite overrated. The food was only mediocre, at best. It's disappointing to say this, especially given its strong reputation in the community.
