This is our local Japanese restaurant. Some years ago we went to Santiago in Chile and went to a Japanese restaurant. The menu was very similar. Over time as we travelled we noticed that a lot of Japanese restaurants are almost made to a template. Despite that we enjoy going here. The staff are so friendly one suspects it is in their job description. The prices are not bad and the food well presented. Unlike the Pizza parlour next door one feels a sense of virtue after having a meal of sushi or some other Japanese delicacy. They also have two excellent Japanese craft beers. We often go here for family celebrations as the menu has something for everyone
Matsumoto is a casual Japanese restaurant with friendly staff and good food. It handles groups well, and there are smaller tables for couples. The tonkatsu and gyoza are particularly good, and there are more unusual dishes like eel and tongue for the more adventurous.The wine markups are a little high and the ramen (noodle soup) was made with thin wheat noodles (possibly commercial 2-minute noodles?), instead of the proper ramen noodles, which was a little disappointing.
I like this place. Was our first time here. The staff are friendly and informative. Price and slightly on the higher side but you pay for the quality of food. Portions are big. The only thing I could recommend is expand the menu. Initial feeling was that it was limited in options. No unagi or baby octopus. But for what we had, it was lovely. 7/10.

A great long lunch afternoon here. Some sites will say this is dinner only. Ring and check if in doubt. The place was packed for Friday long lunches. Typical Japanese fare. Good prices and lunch specials. Service a bit patchy on my recent visit but very enjoyable. Good parking in side streets.
Staying on upper lygon street there was plenty of dining options to choose from. We went for Japanese on our first night here. Service was super fast and efficient and the place was bustling but we got a table Straight away without a booking. Fresh, tasty high quality Japanese
Visited with family for dinner on a (busy) Sunday night.We had four entrees, four mains and a few drinks and paid what we felt was a very reasonable price.The food was super tasty and fresh, and fair sizes. Service was fantastic. Would definitely eats here again.
