Came with Mr. for my birthday dinner no reservations available but luckily we got seated upon arrival. The place was too tight as it was crowded but we enjoyed the hustle and the full occupancy made the place more warm and comfortable. We were starving so ordered mushrooms and clams to begin with. I don't know why the mushrooms looked burnt see picture but they tasted soooooo good! Highly recommend those!! Clams were good too. Then we placed the order for the mains but it took a long wait for the order to arrive. Can't blame them as the place was too full!!! By the time the order came, we were starving so thankfully the food was good. Pasta with shrimps was light as Me. wanted and my spaghet...
I've eaten here twice.. nice small family italian restaurant with outstanding homemade meals.. had Veal Parmigiana, would have taken a photo if i hadn't inhaled it in 5 minutes !!! Service was good , not too nosy or intrusive with the right amount of information.. my wife had eggplant meatballs and artichoke bisque soup.. it was very good for her ! Also had side of angel hair with red sauce that was just like mama made for me as a child . Highly recommend this place. No reservations unless party is over 6 people and parking is tight but well worth the trip for an authentic italian home cooked meal..
Wow, what a true hidden gem in the heart of Clifton! I've been to countless Italian restaurants in Jersey, and this one is absolutely magical! The rigatoni is made fresh in-house, and it really makes a difference. I had mine with Cajun chicken and vodka sauce—simply melt-in-your-mouth delicious! My friend ordered the shrimp Parmesan, also with the homemade rigatoni, and he was smitten! They have a full bar, and I will definitely be returning!
The food smelled amazing, but I expected better taste, especially since the place was so crazy busy and many of the patrons seemed like longtime, repeat customers. Inside is pretty and staff were nice but it was so loud you couldn't hear your own thoughts. Forget about finding parking, especially on a busy night. Uber there and back if you can. Prices are decent. I'll try it again but have a feeling my rating won't change.

This is a lovely intimate spot to visit. I've been eager to try it for some time. The food and service were both very good, but they didn't quite meet my high expectations. Don't get me wrong; it was delicious! However, I'm a bit spoiled by my amazing Italian wife’s cooking and my North Jersey Italian food standards. Even so, I still highly recommend this place!

I had a wonderful experience at Matthew's. The staff were friendly and made sure to check on us regularly, but at just the right moments. The food was delicious and was served quickly. It arrived hot and presented beautifully. The restaurant has a charming and cozy atmosphere, not overly crowded, and the music was pleasant without being overpowering. This has quickly become a new favorite of mine!
Went there for early Sunday dinner. The person at the door was pleasant and friendly. The waitress was just as nice. Everyone enjoyed the food and we even went home with a bottle of home made salad dressing. This is our second time here and won't be our last.
