Our choir tour group was booked into the Silver Dart Lodge for two nights on our visit to Nova Scotia/Cape Breton. This is a review of McCurdy’s Dining Room which is part of the Lodge.We had a dinner and a breakfast. Meals are served buffet style. As such, your dinner choices are varied, and the offerings similarly varied in quality – from pretty good to excellent. Dinner mains featured a seafood casserole, which was above average. Breakfast was the standard (eggs, meat, pancakes, toast, etc). Bur the sausage was particularly worth remembering.Having just come from PEI, I “overdosed” on the local mussels. For a restaurant attached to an Inn the quality of the food is excellent and up there with any other restaurant. We were at first seated in what felt like the middle of the hallway int he restaurant. The maitre'd sensing our displeasure moved us down to the window as the next reservation for that table was in an hour and a half. We were more than happy to move. Employees like that are what makes or breaks an establishment. He could have just left us there, but instead went out of his way to please his guests.Food was excellent, with many options for all eaters. It was convenient to dine here as residents who had signed up for a 3-night package, and we did - once. The dining room is large and has a wonderful view over the lake, but has no character. The staff are rushed off their feet but do the best in those circumstances. My baked haddock was quite disappointing - nice fish ruined by a glutinous multi-coloured soup poured over it, and not hot. We hoped that breakfast would be a redeeming feature, but it was not. It was entirely ordinary. The scrambled egg was over-cooked and dry; the sausages and bacon cheap-tasting and also dried out. The dining room has a great location with a lovely view. The staff are very friendly, attentive and helpful. We order the fish cakes which were very yummy and the dip which was slightly burnt around the edges but had a good flavour. We wanted the oysters which were not available. Main course. I ordered the Fishermans Stew. It was ok but lacked the fennel flavour that the menu offered. It definitely need more flavour. The lobster dinner my husband ordered was also ok but small with lots of veggies to fill out the plate. We did not order dessert. Good wine menu to accompany your meal. Réservez une table maintenant
On a motorcycle trip with friends from the Washington DC area. Over 1,300 miles to get to this hotel and our first dinner in Baddeck was here. VERY impressed. We're used to pretty high end dining living in a metropolitan area and we were expecting nothing here. We were treated by a wonderful attentive staff and absolutely delish food. Well done!
We did not have a window view, but our table was quiet and very enjoyable for a party of six to sit and chat. I had haddock and it was excellent, with lots of fresh vegies and baby potatoes. Service was excellent. Did not have dessert but would definitely eat here again.
We ate at five different places in Baddeck. This was far and away the best. Great service, terrific view, and super mussels. If you make a reservation, tell them you are staying at one of the other hotels, and they seat you right at the window! (They did us anyway)
We chose to eat here based on reviews and were not disappointed. We were able to reserve a table and sat outside with a wonderful view of the lake. All dishes were delicious and the service was first class with just the right amount of attentiveness Réservez une table maintenant
