Hands down the worst food I’ve had in years. The chicken tenders were inedible and the dirty fries were disgusting. I have been to meat and barrel several times over the years and never had an experience like this. Have the management changed? Who’s in the kitchen? Are we cutting so many corners we’ve lost sight of why we are here? I sent my food back and got a refund it was so so bad. The staff were all rude and couldn’t be bothered to serve us. It’s such a shame for a local place to go so downhill. No atmosphere, terrible food, awful staff. I will not be returning anytime soon. If you want a nice evening with good food do yourself a favour and go to Croxton’s a few doors down.
Best Burgers in Southsea. Utterly delicious and consistently good no matter which you chose! My only call out is there aren’t enough staff to deliver food to the tables. Whenever we are in and it’s especially noticeable on deal nights. One guy with black hair, maybe early 30s is always run off his feet (although super polite and friendly), whilst bar staff have a chat and several others mingle to the sides. This one guy practically covers the entire floor, clearing, delivering and getting condiments. His effort is relentless and deserves acknowledgment.
I recently visited Meat and Barrel and had a fantastic experience. They continue to offer a great variety of beers on tap and in cans, which I appreciated. I went on a Tuesday for the Southsea burger club, where burgers are 50% off. Although there was a slight issue with the discount being applied correctly by my server, they quickly rectified it. The food arrived promptly and was delicious. Overall, I had a great 10/10 visit to Meat and Barrel.
Omg just love meat and barrel this place is just simply amazing.tried many of burgers they sell and my favourite has to the double barrel,three beef patties,onion rings,bacon and cheese.special mention for the bbq brisket fries and the bourbon chicken tenders.would highly recommend this place this is the closest I’ve had to burgers from America.

I had a wonderful late lunch at this restaurant. It looks fantastic after its renovation. The cocktails were tasty and the food was amazing, with two of my companions raving about the chicken. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The staff are friendly and very patient with children. I would definitely recommend this place.
We came in for a drink and food, but there were a lot of kids running around who became very annoying very fast. I don’t mind kids in pubs, but then they are running circuits at high speed and bouncing off your seat and table there is a limit. We’ll come back again and try food, but when the crowd is a little less active!
My husband enjoyed the wide selection of beers and his burger. I could find anything that I particularly fancied on the menu as I felt everything was the same but with very slight variations. I ordered sides instead but only enjoyed the chips. I wouldn’t visit again.
Fantastic choice of great quality beers and excellent food! Ordered a flight of beers to try more, all were superb. The family loved the burgers and I devoured to louisiana pulled pork mac and cheese. Would highly recommend!

Very nice food and atmosphere when I popped in for lunch! food was good although I must say the buns used on the burgers were quite a let down, definitely will come back on special offer days to try out the rest of the menu
The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and a fantastic variety of craft beers and IPAs to choose from. The decor has been recently updated, creating a wonderful vibe.
