Merchants is part of the lively downtown Lawrence scene which makes it a fun place to have dinner. The menu is varied with choices for nearly every discerning diner. We had both salmon and cod and the preparation was excellent, especially the salmon. The salad was excellently and creatively prepared and the homemade dressing served as a nice complement to the variety of greens. Service is always excellent at Merchants and this evening was no exception. The only thing that kept this from being a perfect dining experience was that I was seated under an air conditioning vent and I was extremely uncomfortable throughout the dining experience. Really awesome place to grab a bite to eat. Atmosphere was great. Service was phenomenal. Food was delectable. We decided to share a few small plates so we could try a variety of dishes. The arancini were sooooo good. Crisp on the outside and melty goodness on the inside sitting on a scrumptious sauce. Manchester bee bites had a drizzle of honey and cracked pepper, delicious and I cannot wait to put that on my next cheese board. Potato, leek soup was amazing. My only regret was that I did not order a bowl of it! Hubby also ordered the chorizo sweet potato taco and fried chicken taco, and stated they may have been the best tacos he's ever had! ?
Visiting Lawrence overnight, and dined at Merchants on a busy Saturday night. Seated right away because we had a reservation. So many options for people with allergy and dietary restrictions. Everything on the menu is very clearly marked! We sampled an appetizer special, the beet and arugula salad (amazing combination of flavors), and the airline chicken. They also have a huge selection of beer and cider. Appreciate how much they source from local farmers. We would definitely check it out again the next time we're in Lawrence.
Food is novel, mostly tasty; but over-priced. 2 salads with protein added (1 vegetarian), 2 cocktails=$50+ before the tip. This is not sustainable for 2 friends who have white-collar jobs in Lawrence. I could justify this maybe every 2 months; unless I find someplace better that is a bit pricey and worth it. It would be good to state clearly which cocktails are savory (not at all sweet) and vice-versa. It is a bit hard to tell from the menu. The vegetarian burger will be better if fully cooked through.

Took my wife to Merchants For our Anniversary. Lucky#13! We have traveled all over and ate in some of the finest restaurants. This ranks at one of the top! Food and drink was awesome and Jonathon our server was fabulous! We operate a restaurant on Mass and we love supporting our neighbors! TK and Emily definitely know how to do things right! Thanks Merchants for a memorable anniversary!
Excellent Easter Sunday Brunch! Hot food was hot and cold was cold. This place does an incredible job on it vegetables. Yes I eat meat but the kale, brussel sprouts and carrots are fabulous. Smoked salmon with all the appropriate topping available. Good food and good coffee, usually hard to find together.
My husband and I came from KC while some friends drove in from Topeka. We always like to meet in Lawrence and explore dining spots. The Mercantile Pub and Plate did not disappoint. I'm sure we'll visit there again soon. Excellent menu and beer selections, and great, friendly service. Thanks !
The waitress was very knowledgeable about gluten-free versus Celiac requirements and made sure that my husband's plate that did not have to be Celiac friendly was prepared in the Celiac friendly part of the kitchen because his dish was naturally gluten free.

We had the Sunday brunch buffet; food was great and the price was fair. Service was lovely and we will certainly be back!
They did a great job in accommodating a party of 7 short notice. Good food and drinks.
