We tried to a table here the night we arrived in the area but they were fully booked. They were very apologetic and we know next time to book well in advance. This is a small restaurant and we understand it is almost often fully booked. The reasons why are obvious. But we did get in the next night. They take reservations for two sittings, the first at 6:15 and I think the second at 8.The bread dish was almost an amuse bouche. Two types of, I assume homemade, breads with butter, chutney and a cheese short bread. Very good.I had a failure at home attempting to cook gnudi so we ordered it here. Friends who live in the area recently introduced us to the dining room at the Merrill Inn...we chose to sit on the patio as it was quieter and the temperature pleasant for dining al fresco. All of us started with salads, either the Caesar or their signature salad, followed by the Ontario rack of lamb, the duck and the pickerel. All were beautifully prepared and presented....and delicious! Dessert followed -- and coffee....the restaurant has a nice wine list showcasing local Ontario wines, ciders and beers. A very lovely and memorable evening...
Another fabulous meal prepared by Chef Michael. I was a little disappointed that his famous and delicious crab cake appetizer had been replaced by pickerel cakes, but not for long! They were fabulous, creamy, moist and enough for sharing. I had the rack of lamb, which was perfectly cooked and the lentil, green bean and sausage accompaniment was very flavorful. The tenderloin with chimichuri was also exceptional. Great wine list, great service.
We ate here as part of our accommodation package. The restaurant is downstairs and is probably not accessible for the disabled. I found it tough enough with a bad knee. That said, the food was excellent but most people would probably only find one or two entrees as their favourites. The seating was very crowded. A reservation is necessary if you wish to dine there.
