Staying in Cortes itself this year meant we could walk to the local restaurants. We did intend to try out La Puerta de Atras, but it was unavoidably closed, so we returned to Meson los Monteros. As we found last year, the menu del dia was remarkable value: a large plate of olives, a beer, 3 courses plus bread all for 8 euros. Even when we had an extra drink plus coffee afterwards, the bill for 2 of us was still only 20 euros. We were so satisfied with both the food and the cost that we ended up eating here 3 times during the week. Service from the young barman waiter was both very helpful and friendly. The food was very average, no problem with the chefs. The service was poor! We waited 10 minutes for a menu while large groups were taken care of around us. Once dinner was finished, no attention was paid to our empty glasses or we may want to have a dessert menu. After 20 minutes we asked for a menu 3 times, a further 10 minutes passed and I got bored of waiting and asked for the bill. 10 minutes later still no bill even though the staff were running around larger groups in the restaurant. The bill still never came so I had to go to the bar and pay. There didn't seem to be any set-up or communication between staff. Up to 4 different people seemed to serve one table so none of the staff knew...
We ate here one day for lunch when we were staying in the valley below Cortes. Two courses plus bread, olives, coffee and a large beer cost us just 8 euros each. The food was tasty and the portions were generous. There was no formal menu: the waiter barman just told us the 3 or 4 choices available for each course. Service was a little laid back, but very friendly. We sat on the shaded patio at the back of bar which overlooks a partial mountain view. We would be quite happy to go there on another occasion, but would leave the timing of our visit a little later as the lunch menu del dia did not seem to start till 14.00.
Visited this restaurant twice. The views from the terrace at the back are breathtaking Staff here are so friendly, speaking Spanish, English and German.....the ones who can't speak much English apologize and really try.....I should be the one apologising for my poor Spanish! The food here is lovely and very reasonable in price, two courses and at least 3 large drinks each....€80 for 4 adults.
