We visited with my husband one day for lunch. It had some nice reviews so we said why not? We did not know it but the restaurant proposes for lunch only 2 options for entree main course and desert (no way to order a la carte). We said well it can't be that bad anyway. We arrived around 13:00, a normal time to have lunch, but the second choice for the entree was already not available. Although the waiter presented her excuses, it is rather inconvenient in a restaurant where you propose only two choices to actually not have these two choices available. I was forced to eat the duck carpaccio. It was not bad, but I really do not eat duck if I have a choice. The main course was ok, so was the desert. But no flavour that justifies the price. Some flavours were out of place and over all, although we did not leave the restaurant hungry, we agreed that we have had a lot better meals in our lives.
This is definitely a place for the food AND wine lover. Although it doesn't have a written wine list, it's easy to browse the nicely displayed bottles and choose. The staff are also very knowledgeable about wine and even recommended an '06 Anjou blanc which I wouldn't have chosen myself but was an inspired choice for my fish dish.The menu selection is comprehensive and the food was of a very high quality as well as nicely presented.
By happy accident we eat in Mets & Vins. Charming staff, relaxed atmosphere and food to die for. Started with Bouillon Thaï et gambas. followed by Volaille de Bresse, pommes de terre d’Artois et son jus truffé. Chicken has never tasted this good. And more wines than you can image. A must when visiting Angers.PS the deconstructed tarte takin was unbelievable.
