If I could have given this restaurant 3 1/2 stars, I would. However I have generously marked up. My husband and my son really enjoyed their food, however I was disappointed. My starter of gravadlax was lovely and fresh and I really enjoyed it. However my main, sea bass, (although in a beautiful sauce with lovely samphire, was pinky brown and tough. I don’t know what was wrong with it, I have never had sea bass like that before. Maybe it had been frozen previously or wasn’t very fresh. They tried to cook it some more but it was still the same. To be fair I was not charged for this item, however I had no real main course to eat and was mostly sat watching my husband and son! My second mistake was to order the panna cotta for dessert. I’ve never had such a bland, watery panna cotta, with a weird texture. Taking pity on me, my husband swapped and gave me his dessert. I can’t remember the name of what it was but it was maybe a lemon curd tart with some kind of dark fruit? Anyway, it was absolutely delicious. Tangy scrumptious filling and lovely pastry. So at least I got to eat something nice! The proprietor and staff were lovely to us and our dog. I’m afraid I wouldn’t go back though.

The restaurant offers a delicious seasonal menu with a wide variety of options. We enjoyed the fillet steak, sea bass, and pork belly, all of which were delicious. The children's menu was also good and had a nice variety of fresh, homemade dishes. The desserts were excellent and unique, with the Baileys burnt basque cheesecake standing out as a favorite. The dishes were beautifully presented, and the atmosphere was cozy and charming.

I recently stayed at The Smugglers Rest, a charming B&B with a bistro in a quaint village setting, ideal for discovering the North Devon coastline. The dedication to excellent customer service is evident in every aspect, from the warm welcome to the tasteful decor, the delicious freshly prepared meals, and the accommodating staff. I would definitely return for another visit.

The Smugglers Rest is our preferred accommodation choice in North Devon. Its location is convenient for Woolacombe and the surrounding area, with access to village amenities. The rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated, and they serve an excellent breakfast in the morning. We have stayed here multiple times and plan to do so in the future.
