Great date place. Consistently spectacular food. Unassuming, affordable, sexy. Prixe fixe on Thursday last included a deep arugula salad with fennel and prosciutto, a mussel dish that had me slurping up the extra broth, and a juicy version of linguine alle vongole (fresh clams, perfectly cooked) with some kind of irresistible crunchy magic that had me LICKING the outside of the damn shells. There was a basil ‘nduja pizza that slapped, and an unusual dessert for NC— a lux combo of burrata, herbs, and blistered peaches. It was gorgeous. Wine pairings were spot on. Wait staff, spot on. I often stop at Mission Pizza on my frequent trips between Asheville and Raleigh. The menu is straightforward and offers just enough of everything. Pizza is beyond reproach and true to Neapolitan form. It goes great will a cold Peroni. The small plates, salads, and pastas all hit the mark. Had the wood oven chicken piccata last night and it was outstanding. Wine list is simple but has everything you need. Totally reminiscent of a true Italian pizza spot. And look out AVL, you are in for a treat. Highly recommend stopping in.
We were visiting Winston-Salem and decided to stop here for dinner. There was a 30 minute wait which we agreed to and then were told it would an additional hour. By the time we were seated, we were really hungry. They were out of two apps that we wanted so we settled for a salad and pizza. The arugula salad was so dry. I normally go very light on my dressing but this was like eating grass. We also got the burrata pizza and it was very bland.
What a great place. Just had an event here and the food, the pizza and the service couldn’t have been better. Kenny was a great host and they make their pizzas to perfection. Can’t say enough good things about Mission Pizza. And we had a friend who had some dietary restrictions and they were so accommodating it was awesome. It just doesn’t get better than this. We had the Pizzakasse at the bar with the wine pairings. If you get a craving for pizza, you should treat yourself and go all in for the pizzakasse. You are at the mercy of Chef's creative diabolical notions with a very thought out wine pairing. Sit, come hungry, You'll have a great time!
