Best Japanese food I 've had in Rockland, innovatively prepared and for two people with Sake, three appetizers, two entrees, extra tea, the check of only $60 was entirely reasonable. We also enjoyed the service. Attentive but not overly hovering, friendly, informational, etc. The hijiki was served warm a real surprise. The Age Dashi Tofu (fried bean curd) was barely fried with a very light, tasty coating and wonderful sauce. Everything we tried was outstanding. I was especially impressed that during my first visit, when I ordered the Aji Special, the sushi chef asked if I had ever tried fried Aji bones. When I replied that I hadn't, but that it sounded intriguing (and I mentioned to my wife that a restaurant that recommends unique dishes on our first visit is definitely my kind of place), the chef went ahead and prepared it for me to try—free of charge.
This is the only authentic Japanese restaurant in the entire area on both sides of the river. The decor may be a bit outdated, but it is clean. The table service is excellent. The food is good and more original than the fast-food fusion sushi places that are everywhere. The prices are reasonable. We live across the river, and if we’re not dining in the city, this is our go-to spot.
This restaurant has a welcoming, family-friendly vibe and offers authentic, fresh Japanese cuisine. I absolutely love it here! The sushi chefs are incredibly friendly, so I suggest sitting at the sushi bar for a great experience. I highly recommend starting with the Murasaki Carpaccio!
