"Everyone gets the same plays du jour for 23 euros with wine. You will get a fantastic simple meal that you wouldn’t order at a regular restaurant with a hiliarous chef/ host/ owner manager. What a great meal get there early so you can sit outside sit down and enjoy. This will be one of my favorite meals of this trip if not many trips to France."

We had lunch here on a Sunday. From the photos, the restaurant is usually very busy. But we were lucky to have the restaurant mostly to ourselves when we arrived soon after it opened at noon. We were warmly greeted by a young man who spoke excellent English having lived in Ireland for two years (the owner Dede was not here today). The building is very old and the interior completely unique. Here is how the restaurant works. It is a set menu with one price. The starter is a small thin tarte flambee with onions on top. The main course is made up of fouee. These are small fluffy pieces of bread made from special flour and cooked in a wood fired oven. Several condiments in small round bowls accompany the fouee. Most of these are meat based, but a few are vegetarian (cheese and butter). You spread these inside the fouee after slicing it open or on top of it. It also comes with a green leaf salad with a tasty dressing. Vegetarians can eat here, but it is a no-go for vegans. The meal concludes with a dessert consisting of a small tart and another fouee filled with a red wine flavored jam. You can have as many fouee breads as you like – it’s all you can eat. We really enjoyed our meal here especially the friendly service from Matis. We wanted to try fouee bread and this is your chance. There is a small wine museum in the basement. Our only recommendation to the owner is to add a few vegan and a couple more vegetarian bowls to the menu so you can expand your customer base to those who don’t eat meat or meat-based products. Otherwise, this is an excellent restaurant for a meal and we highly recommend it.

We found this restaurant by accident and initially hesitated as we couldn't quite work out the menu. Dede the owner spotted us lurking at the door and invited us to sit with a group on a large table. We sat for a couple of minutes wondering what to expect and it wasn't long before Dede filled our classes with his magic jug that never goes empty. The fabulous food of many unusual and traditional courses was served by a very friendly team who went out of their way to make sure the evening was very special. This restaurant should be listed in the French must do list and I would highly recommend the experience. The evening didn't end with the bill as the team invited us out to a bar across the street. We we had a great night and the locals made us feel very welcome magnifique

We visited here after reading other reviews. It didn't disappoint. It's a set menu for €22. The host, Dede, welcomes you with a lovely glass of demi-sec vin blanc (we bought a case! and you wait around 1 minute before the first delicious morsel is served. A thin flatbread with lardons, garlic and onions. From there you are brought the amazing fouee, pork rillettes and garlic butter. Then more fouee, mogettes de Vendee (beans in smoky tomato sauce and goats cheese mouse. Desert is the delicious local tarte au vin and also fouee with wine jam. Then coffee and chocolates. What an absolute bargain and so delicious. If you want to try authentic local food and eat somewhere with character then this is the place. Dede has his hospitality down to a tee and we absolutely loved it.

Not your average everyday restaurant. Set menu and wine for a very reasonable 20 euro. Food pretty basic but I guess more authentic than the restaurants on the tourist square. It was however very tasty and enjoyable!!! Owner very friendly and even showed us into the kitchen and his bread oven. If your looking for French haute cuisine then stay away fancy a change and bored at looking at menus? This is a good place.
