"Japanese Kappo cuisine is generally accepted that customers are sitting opposite the cook. One advantage is to see the food prepared and the dish immediately serves you. In NamiNami is the only area where you can see a cook at the small sushi bar (for maybe 4 people) when you enter. The entire kitchen is closed and the rest of the seat are at tables. The decor is beautiful and spacious. They had smooth jazz playing all the time I was there (a little strange in a "traditional" Japanese restaurant). The service was a little out, with several waiters asking for drinks orders, and only 1 or 2 empty dishes are regularly deleted. The food was decent and portions were okay, but definitely not for...

If the price was not an object, Kappo NamiNami would definitely be one of the best restaurants around. It is a completely fresh takeover of Japanese for Californians who grew up in Japanese-as-sushi roles The kito-style small plates pack a potent taste stamp that shocks and wakes the taste buds and offers perfected culinary creations in small packages. The beef tongue stew $18) each raves over is definitely as good as I heard and a must try plate. The juicy and soft meat makes for one of the most pleasant meat dishes I had from late and is quite hearty. The tiny Aalsuppe $8 I think, but I forgot the name) is very interesting, has a wonderful broth, and the translucent whole baby aale are fas...

Nami Nami is a new restaurant on Castro, although you might miss it because there is no big sign on the front. During lunchtime they have Bento sets. But these are not your typical chickens Teriyaki/Tempura bentos. You have unique items that are presented so well! The prices for lunch are typical for Japanese food, but you get a good amount. Each set comes with rice, salad, misosuppet and a cold dish of the day. I'm here for dinner too. The menu is different, and it is izakaya style. The diversity is not as diverse as Gochi, but still have unique dishes that are still beautifully presented. Not only are they nice to see, but also good. It is new, so there are still some rough edges to work f...

My first time at this place and I was quite lost at the long menu, so I just picked out the Nigiri set to try out the quality of sushi here. The fish didn't look very appealing, but the taste was spot-on. The sushi was prepared professionally with the right amount of rice and fish. The rice texture was perfect and the fish cut was diligent. The fish was actually fresh and delicious (for 36 dollars I wouldn't expect super quality and rare type), and I even liked the egg sushi very much. I would say that this place is quite authentic. The Japanese chef talked to the Japanese customers from his station, so the atmosphere seemed traditional to me. 1 star off because I felt a bit neglected at the...

The peaceful cozy ambiance that the elderly Japanese server/owner creates is wonderful and makes you feel like your friend 's Mom is serving you a home cooked meal. Now is the Mom a good cook?We prefer the raw fish here over the cooked food. Sashimi was pretty fresh even during the pandemic. The pork belly pot was too fatty for us, and Udon at nearby Udon mugizo is better. But the tempura was a tad better than Udon mugizo. Meat quality tends to be not so fresh. The agedashi tofu was ok, but grated Daikon garnish was lacking. The deep fried baby octopus is better at Daigo. This is one of the pricier options in MV downtown, and we personally don 't think the quality of the food reflects that. Bu...
