Our bicycle ride last evening to the Nepean Sailing Club was a distinct pleasure, past orchards of lilac bushes and blossoming crab apple trees. On a warm evening, the thought of a bike ride followed by a cold beer on a deck overlooking the Ottawa river was meant to end a busy week. There is no service at one's table. No one telly you that. Tough to get a table firstly, but having found one, then one has to line up at the bar, where, after a confusing wait, we were pleasantly served our pints, which were very reasonably priced. But the food was priced a bit rich: $17 for a Rueben panini with chips. Filling, yes, but almost $5 to 7 over what one would pay elsewhere. After paying, we were give...
I wanted to convey my appreciation for the service we received on Saturday, October 18th, 2014 for the wedding party of my son and daughter (60 guests). The planning and execution of the venue for that day was successful and went without a glitch.The guests were very impressed with the food. The appetizers were well presented and tasteful. The diner, well, I’m not sure how the cook prepared the chicken but everybody just loved it. Having the after dinner side table with the vegetables, then the pizza towards the end was a good idea. If you are a land locked boater this is a spot to assuage your longing of the water. Fortunately this Club welcomes non members to enjoy their patio and well priced drinks and food.The draft pints are now running at $5.35 plus tax. We enjoyed an order of pita wedges with olive tempanade and beets for $6.00 We noticed an elaborate awning setup over the waterside balcony which offered plenty of shade.The site is part of the Dick Bell park and offers a paved walkway/trail alongside the river extending over to the Andrew Hayden park.Take a stroll and visit the Club for some refreshments. This deck on the Ottawa River is perhaps the only place in Ottawa to eat outside surrounded by dozens of sailboats. As the guest of a Club member, and as a long-time Ottawa resident, it was a revelation that all are welcome to drink and dine, outside or inside! Everything is self-serve, with a high-tech system to announce when your order is ready. My fish and chips were very good, and the price was right. A choice of house wines is available by the glass. We stopped here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. There is an extensive menu, the drinks are cheap, and the food good. Of course then views over the marine for the sailing club were fantastic especially at sunset. Order drinks and food at the bar and when your food is ready the buzzer they give you will buzz and you can pick it up beside the bar. Friendly atmosphere and lots of happy people.
