"This restaurant is based in the basement of Westfield in Pitt Street. It has a very welcoming decor and a great atmosphere. The food was very tasty and the service was very prompt. The dumpling were a massive hit with our table. Simply the best food New Shanghai has to offer.I will definitely be back again- just what you need after a long shopping day."

Went to New Shanghai for lunch today to have lunch with my brother on his work break. Don't even bother going there unless you are willing to wait one hour for thin air. We ordered 4 dishes and only two arrived in the space of the hour we were there for lunch (the amount of time that my brother had for his work break). After ordering, our first dish came out pretty promptly (within 10 minutes) but from then on the other three remained absent. The amount of times that we saw the tables around us receiving their dishes were numerous and we were especially irritated when people who had ordered after us were getting their food (especially dishes we had also ordered!!). We repeatedly asked waitresses and eventually even the manager where our food was, only to be told "the dumplings are coming in 3 minutes," to which we replied "and our salt and pepper tofu?" Eventually the pot stickers came out but the Xiao long bao didn't make an appearance until right at the end of the hour when we were just about to get up and go (this in itself is irritating because the Xiao long bao are the quickest to come out and the pot stickers the latest). We refused the Xiao long bao and told the waitress it was too late, that we had already spent an hour here, that it was unacceptable and we were going to take the bill and go. The icing on the cake: they had the nerve to hand us a bill with all four dishes, even though we had already complained about only receiving 2. If you want to see and taste the food that you order, I suggest eating lunch somewhere else.

Quick dinner before the the theatre. Happy to find this place as we couldn't find much else around The New State Theatre in Sydney. Maybe we just didn't know where to look. Anyway the food was good, service quick although a few minor misunderstanding resulted in us receiving an extra glass of wine that they offered complimentary. Large portions, pleased we only ordered one lot of dumplings, one main course, one rice and one vegetable dish for two to share. The dumplings were the highlight. Melt in the mouth tho be careful as they are hot! Hadn't come across this chain & will definitely check out the one on Melbourne sometime. Pretty authentic for a chain.

No no no, seriously not good. Very average. Ordered through Foodora and got the Marinated Pork Ribs, Shepherd's Purse & Pork Wontons & Zha Jiang Noodles. I'm not sure if it's because it was delivery, it just wasn't great. Everything was served separately, which is fine, but had to mix everything. The taste was not good, just so so average. The Pork Ribs was the only one that was half-way decent. I couldn't even finish it though. Really disappointed :( I missed out on my work dinner at Sea Bay so was craving good food, sigh. Total $26.50

My wife and I are a big fan of New Shanghai. We usually go there very often. We have been to Brisbane CBD location, Chatswood and Bondi Junction. The Bondi Junction is the worst. Usually New Shanghai has good food but it's just this specific location- Bondi Junction Westfield in food court, it's pathetic to the core. The staff are not professional and service is also horrible. Food quality is of a cheap Chinese takeaway! Save your bucks for next door, you'll be happy...
