We are here just before lock-down. The portions are designed for shepherds who have just come in off the moors after spending ten hours looking for lost sheep. You will not go home hungry however far you have walked. The quality of the ingredients is...superb tender chunks of meat, thick gravy and delicious short-crust pastry in the cow pie. Probably the best steak and ale pie I have ever had. My wife's sticky toffee pudding was literally swimming in toffee sauce far superior to any shop-bought one from Cartmel. This is a place that deserves to be widely known and, when things get back to normal, full of people enjoying the wonderful food.

The dining experience and service at this restaurant were impeccable! We were a large group and booked two lunch hours in advance to see how busy it would be. We were welcomed with a very friendly greeting and the food started coming out as soon as we were ready. The dishes were amazing, from the simple starters to the seafood, steak, and lamb dishes - everything was hot and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying the homemade Steak Pie with a rich gravy, and the chips were excellent. We will definitely be returning soon and I can't wait!
we were made to feel really welcome as soon as we went through the tore of hostesses karen and tracey. they were both very helpful and friendly. my wife and I ordered both the half-deaded chicken that came with chips and salat. that was a very generous part that we really enjoyed. there was also a good selection of drinks and everything was favorable. we would have stayed longer, but it became dark and we had a mile back to our house. we highly recommend this venue. cathy and john, birmingham.
We were off schedule on a motorbike ride and of us randomly called in here. We were welcomed with open arms and seating organized for us all. Ordered a big variety of drinks and food and all of the group were very happy. In discussions...afterward several commented it was the best pub we had been to in a Long time, staff were great. It will become a regular stopping point when in the area in future. Réservez une table maintenant
Eight of us had lunch here on Easter Saturday. the service was friendly and efficient, and the house made eating really good. I had steak and ale pee with chips, then sticky toffee pudding. I recommend both, but the courts that the other members of the. my party also looked great. all in all it was a great pub lunch, and I'll be back.
Visited many times (since the Returned with my son a week ago, and both sons on July. Excellent meals and service both times. Decent menu variety, but remains simple and unpretentious. The Gammon (which unfortunately many pubs have stopped offering) was the best...I have had for years. Highly recommended in all respects.
We ate here as a family of four all our food was lovely. The staff were really friendly. Our food came promptly Starters minestrone soup and salmon salad were tasty. Mains gammon and steak pie both tasty and with proper home made chips. Would return...again.

Friendly atmosphere, drinks reasonably priced. Food was alarmingly bad. Nothing fresh or tasty about it, poor helpings, poor watery gravy and served on freezing cold plates.
Never been before, such a lovely quiet spot. Very welcoming and did us proud with a lovely lunch. Incidentally the ham is exceptional!
