"extra points for friendly relaxed service, but eating was good, not great. a bit confused in that there were interesting aromen, but somehow for me they did not gel. scallops were overcooked by a lot. the cod was good and very plentiful. the 3 smaller...speeds were in order, but inconspicuous. I wouldn't drive for 40 minutes to eat there. if they're in the 'hood, they'll try it safely."

After a rather stressful day for me my husband said we should try NeXT. It's one of few Ottawa high-end dining restaurants we have not yet visited. We chose to go with the tasting menu, which was a selection of nine sharing plates from the...main menu. We also chose the accompanying wine flights. The food was quite good and the spice level was toned down, to accommodate my husband's non-spicy palate, without compromising on the flavour. We sampled the fried cauliflower and the salad followed by the tempura curds and drunken noodles. Next was a soup, mine the coconut corn and his a pea soup. A group of 6 friends went to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. After hearing good things we decided to give it a try, but we were all dissapointed afterwards. The restaurant is far in the outskirts (in case you are not familiar with the...Ottawa area), but our real issue was the rude service from our waitress and the very confusing menu. As we were a group of six, we had no other choice but to take the “sharing experience” option, yet the menu listed individual plates and prices which was very confusing (apparently this is only applicable for 5 people or fewer). Birthday bash for my wife: all appetizers and main courses were great but beware the Korean rib 'dish '. Served on a bland bed of white rice, this thin slice of 'meat ' was tough as old boots. The rather delicious sauce did a fine...job of hiding the generous amounts of gristle and fat, as well as the odd piece of bone remaining from the bandsaw cutting through the ribs. The knife provided was woefully incapable of dissecting this piece of meat our dog would give up on (and he 's got powerful teeth! . A little apprehensive as mixed bag of reviews. Staff were friendly. Menu was explained and questions answered. Shared two appies with my husband. the squid and the shrimp and chorizo croquettes. Squid very tender, well presented a little sweet for us. Shrimp and chorizo croquettes...for me did not have much flavour, flavour came from the sauce that it was in and the additional sauce on the side. do not know why some people ride over this restaurant. I would not recommend my extended family! we had dinner here a few days ago and I would describe it so well, not exceptional. the prices are not with the actual ingredients...for example, the crispy ente let confit was served with white beans. by the way, the duck was dry and impossible to chew. we have also tried the crispy chicken, pan melated cauliflower, bark tartarre, kapow cauliflower and garnel chorizo croquette. our waiter told us that we order in an unusual pattern (i.e., start and main course were ordered at the same time)! Might be the “best” in stittsville but mediocre food, ambience is fine, everything else we had was lacking. Definitely not fine dining and the food doesn’t reflect that. The menu is not cohesive, “Asian inspired” but lack of continuity in the menu. Papaya salad was...bland and had huge chunks of Napa as filler, oysters were not the freshest, and the ribeye was ok. Dutch baby as a dessert was undercooked and got a mouthful of raw dough. Plenty of other places to try in Ottawa, this place should go to the bottom of the list. I was taken there by my husband, daughter and son in law. There were great reviews but I was so disappointed. The ambience was lovely, the service great but the food a major let down. The bill was $520 with tip and barely worth half...that. We did have drinks before dinner, 2 alcohol and 2 without, a bottle of $68 wine and the rest of the expense was good. Awesome presentation but no flavour and not hot. I will never go back there and I’m telling everyone who told me the food was great.
had takeout, it was pretty bad! the main course was thrown together and the bark was piled to shoe leather! the best part was the salate. I decided to talk to the manager some weeks later so that maybe closer...the face could be paid to their takeover orders in the future. to the owner/cook, instead of being gracious or even a little concerned, he made me feel that I was the one who was guilty. word of advice, never complain, he does not take it very well.
