The last time I reviewed this restaurant, I was pleased to give it top marks. The young blonde girl, Michelle, was a fantastic asset and we always enjoyed our visits. However, since the Covid pandemic, we have noticed a significant decline in quality and service. During our recent visit, we decided that we will not be returning to Niki's Kitchen Cafe. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, and it seems that the restaurant has lost its charm. We will be spending our money at other dining establishments in Newcastle instead. We were informed that lunch service had just ended as we walked in, and when we asked if there was anything available, we were told that the kitchen was closed except fo...

Not impressed. The food was average, and all eggs were undercooked (elements of raw egg white). No sauce was given or offered to us either when the food came down. We ordered two lattes and one latte was just a milky coffee with no steamed milk top, no effort was put into the barista coffees. Service was very robotic and gave us the feeling that they were just trying to get the customers in and out as quick as possible. Far too loud atmosphere as too many tables are put within close proximity of one another, to make more money. I 'll never know how they can justify charging £5.45 for a slice of 'Gateau '. We 'll not be back.
Have been here for breakfast and lunch frequently over last 3 years. Located at the edge of picturesque Newcastle this cafe/restaurant never disappoints. Today we nipped in for breakfast a sumptuous affair with delicious local ingredients. Breakfast was served to our table promptly with morning tea and freshly ground coffee. A proper breakfast with all the old favourites from maple/ smoked bacon and good quality sausage and fried egg with beans and potato bread and soda. Nikki’s offer a large selection of wraps and sandwiches at lunchtime as well as yummy home baked traybakes. I’ll be back
TBH so much untapped potential with right management and direction and good attentive more interested staff this place could a little gem with a proper regarded and liked individual as the manager at the helm. Pretty tired large cold cafe toilets always like visiting Antartica no heat or radiators or heat of any description think they’ve taken cost of living crisis literally as the tap water to wash hands is Baltic they are maybe trying to save money but come on guys!!! Painfully Poor to be honest Railway St, Froth, and Cafe Mauds are paradise by comparison Réservez une table maintenant
The food was mediocre, with a decent toastie but lower quality chicken. The coffee was overly bitter, but what truly shocked me were the mixed-gender toilets. Bringing my young daughter, I was appalled to see a single restroom with shared cubicles for both men and women. This should not be allowed! My daughter felt uncomfortable sharing the space with men, and I'm certain they felt it was inappropriate as well. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
I stood in line before 1:50 pm, as breakfast service ends at 2 pm. I was asked for my order at 2:04 pm, but they refused to serve me from the breakfast menu because it was past 2 pm. It seems ridiculous that in a matter of minutes, they could not use common sense to accommodate one customer.
Once the designated till operator had finished her catch-up chat with a previous customer things went smoothly. Found it strange to be asked if I wanted milk with my black coffee and in hindsight I wish I'd taken it as the coffee was weak and terrible.
Been here more than a few times over the years and Niki's is always excellent . A good size cafe , were food is good , premises clean and tidy , and staff are always great ! Definitely, worth a visit . Réservez une table maintenant
