Nini's Cuban Cuisine

I am Cuban from Miami. My mother and grandparents are from Cuba. My husband's entire family is from Cuba and he also grew up in Miami. The food at Ninis is nothing like what we grew up eating, and it's nothing like any real Cuban restaurant in Miami.The place is small, but both times we went during Friday and Saturday dinner, it was empty..... That should have been a signifier for us.The first time, we ordered a Cuban sandwich and it was bland, lacking flavor. We also got the chicken soup and it was ok.Then we decided to give the place a second try and ordered Vaca Frita and Ropa Vieja. First the portion size was small for a Cuban restaurant. Everything was delicious! My black beans, sweet plantains, and chicken were all flavorful We will certainly be back again. The restaurant is charming and the staff were attentive, thank you!
