Olde Red Lion, Market Bosworth

We visited the Red Lion while doing a walk from Sutton Wharf. On walking in, it reminded me of a pub I might have been taken into as a kid in the 1990s, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I ordered a very good pint of Wainwright's, and took a menu to the beer garden: a real sun trap!! The menu has a lot of choice, but mainly pub classics. I went for the ham, egg and chips...and it was exactly what I hoped for, and more! The ham was top quality...but the chips amazing! Proper home made fried chips, some of the best I've ever had. Always good when you do a new walk, and you come across a gem like this!

The only thing I can fault is the bar staff chatting away between themselves instead of being attentive to customers. We had to collect our own cutlery and condiments from the bar. Maybe we should have sat at the tables already set in the dining area but we like the pub atmosphere. Food good and reasonably priced.

As mentioned before, this is a proper pub with a great feel. A nice big car park in a busy town. We received a lovely warm welcome and shown straight to a nice comfy table. Great selection of beer and nice wines too. On offer...
