Orient Extreme St Germain

I've been going to this restaurant for twenty years, but last night was the last time. It was a nice, traditional place, with freshly prepared Classical Japanese food. But it's been Nobu-ed up: fancier decor, trendier menu, higher prices. And the cuisine doesn't measure up. I had the black cod with miso, for 32 euros, advertised on the menu as fresh. It was a frozen slab that had been microwaved and then broiled with the sauce. A mushy, watery awfulness. Much of the dinner seemed out of the freezer and microwaved. The rice was an overcooked clump of starch. Only bankable thing is the raw fish. Because, you know, it's not cooked. Yes, I'm sad. Loved that place.

Le service était terrible et frisait l'impolitesse. Le restaurant était très fréquenté et un grand groupe de personnes se tenait juste à l'intérieur de la porte, attendant des tables et nous regardant manger, ce qui était très inconfortable. La qualité de la nourriture s'est détériorée au fil des années. Elle reste meilleure que beaucoup des restaurants japonais (tenus par des Chinois) en France mais est maintenant trop chère et surestimée.

Very good Japanese 3 minutes from Blvd Saint-Germaine on the left bank. I enjoyed everything, and there are many classics on the menu. This is a chain that does not feel like a chain. Large menu (not limited to sushi and sashimi). Reserve.
