To be fair all of my inside Dinning experiences at this Citrus Heights location have been consistently good to wonderful. Excellent food. Excellent service, and I’m a card carrying Panera participant, and the Coffee/Charger drink club. Today, I went through the Drive -thru in Citrus Heights. The lady on the speaker taking my order seemed annoyed, bothered , and irritated from the time she started my order. (Almost as if she was called in to cover a shift and work, she didn’t want to work. I want to be clear, she did not say anything point blank “Rude” whatsoever. It was all in her manner, and TONE. During my second visit, I ordered two white cheddar and steak sandwiches, and again, both were overly salty and nearly inedible. For the two sandwiches and two bags of chips, I was charged $30, without any drinks and once again, no napkins. If there are more than two cars in line, be prepared to wait a long time for your order, which is frustrating because you don’t realize this until you’re already in the queue. I found the food and prices to be very disappointing. I was using a gift card, and paying $14 for a sandwich that consists mostly of chopped beef and a mixture of very salty cheese and horseradish felt excessive. I visited this location on a rainy day craving a nice hot bowl of soup to warm me up. Unfortunately, the soup I received was lukewarm and only half full. Additionally, they only offered one flavor of potato chips. The only highlight for me was the hibiscus pear tea, which I enjoyed. I had only been to Panera Bread once before, and it was a good experience, so I decided to return. I'm not entirely sure if I will come back again, perhaps just for the pink juice, haha. However, a recent lunch visit brought me back, and I found the flatbread pizza to be quite delicious. I would say my rating has improved by a star since my last visit, which was about five years ago.
I ordered a half sandwich and a bowl of soup, while my child had a grilled cheese, and we both got drinks, totaling $30. The food was good, but not worth that price. The most disappointing part was stepping away for less than five minutes for my child to use the restroom, and when we returned, our food had been cleared away. I ordered the whole tuna sandwich, and it was quite large and fresh. It comes with a small bag of kettle chips and a pickle spear. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the quality of the food is excellent. I also tried their orange cranberry muffin, but I found it to be too tart and somewhat dry for my liking.
I really enjoy this place. With the option of a monthly payment of almost $11, my cost for coffee or soda drops to less than 40 cents each time I visit, considering how often I come in. There are additional benefits as well, but what I appreciate most is the friendly staff who always make me feel welcome.
