Pappy Mougeot restaurant is a wonderful find. The main menu has a good range of options and the daily ‘suggestions’ for starters and mains are always tempting and very reasonably priced. The restaurant has a delightful ambience and the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. However, the real selling point of this restaurant is, quite rightly, the food; well sourced ingredients beautifully cooked and perfectly seasoned. The chef’s imaginative use of herbs is a revelation. After our first visit it has become our daily choice for lunch! PS the toilets are a joy; I shall say no more The above review was written in July 2019; we revisited twice in the last two weeks and we can only sat that the restaurant has gone from strength to strength. If you visit La Rochelle you would be well advised to visit this gem of a restaurant!
Booking a table for two on a rainy Friday evening was a wise idea since this popular restaurant was almost full. After a very friendly welcome we chose from the dishes of the day and we were very happy with the cuisine. Every dish was excellent and contained combinations of tastes and textures that were for us unique and additionally very artistically presented. We both chose a Pavē du Thon as main course that was astoundingly good. Would most certainly recommend that dish if offered again but the other choices that passed our table looked equally fabulous. As others have commented the guys serving were charming and the whole atmosphere and quirky decor perfect. Unfortunately we live around 80km from la Rochelle so will have to wait a while for our next visit but we already looking forward to that.
Booked based on reviews on TripAdvisor. We reserved table for 7.30 (when they open). Upon entering shown our table by a grinning idiot who pointed a finger vaguely in direction of table. Then ignored and we sat watching staff smirking and making comments about us not sure. Several people tried to get in but were told 'fully booked '. An English couple were obviously very disappointed and tried to reserve another evening. By this time we were really hacked off by lack of service so we told the couple they were welcome to our table and left. Such a huge let down.
We stumbled across this restaurant, weren 't expecting much because it is on a very touristy street, but the food was outstanding and the service was very good. For starters we had endives and hummus balls. Both excellent, the endives recipe (with blue cheese and cured ham and lightly fried) I will attempt to copy myself). Main course I have the Saucisse de l 'ile de rey which was great. The house red was also good and the beers were nice and fresh. Very happy with the whole experience.
