I have been to Paws during Happy Hour not once or twice but many times. That is proof of the fact that I love this place. Any restaurant that makes me go again and again has a couple of things going besides being a very convenient location. One is service and the the other, of course, is the quality of food. In the service area, I haven't seen a better person than Mitch. He makes an exceptional old fashioned but I have also had gin and tonic as well as scotch. Somewhat disappointing. Eighteen years ago, we were married at this venue, and I had hoped to relive those wonderful memories. While the food remains excellent, the service left much to be desired. One server was preoccupied with her phone, and when another asked if we needed anything, we indicated that we were ready for the check. Unfortunately, we waited over 15 minutes before a third waiter approached us as we were putting on our coats and asked if we were ready for the check. This was our first time eating from Paws. We ordered the clam bake with chicken to go. It came with two sides and a dessert. Everything was hot, fresh, and packaged appropriately. The clam chowder was good but the portion was smaller than I expected. The chicken and clams were very good. I normally do not order dessert but this was a mini lava style Bundt cake with some kind of caramel topping and it was delicious. Overall the quality of food was good and fit the price.
We ordered the ribs, and as Chicago natives, we know what good ribs taste like. Paws' ribs are the best we've had in the 25 years since leaving Chicago. The meat was perfectly cooked, the sauce was outstanding, and they weren’t dry at all. The portion size was generous; we shared a full rack and even had leftovers! (They should definitely offer a half rack option.) We took a moment to thank the chef personally for the incredible meal. Thank you for a wonderful dinner!
Waiter was very inexperienced, food was cold and not to discription, steaks were over and under cooked, dessert, well they took one piece and destroyed it and tried to pass it off as two pieces, another piece was large and one was a sliver, really? Horrible, however, manager was accommodating, expensive for what you get
The bar and sushi staff were exceptional. My Old Fashioned and my wife's Martini were both fantastic, especially given the reasonable prices. The Red, White, and Blue sushi roll and the miso soup were remarkable. This was our first night at the Bertram, and we're already looking forward to coming back.

Paws is a remarkable restaurant for a hotel venue. Although the service may be somewhat slow at times, the food consistently impresses. Don't miss out on the bacon-wrapped filet or the clambake if it's available; the chicken in the clambake is especially delicious.
