The stars don’t really tell the full story so I would like to elaborate. I really enjoy Pennyroyal Station. The atmosphere is good. The food is great. However there is one thing that keeps me from being a more frequent guest: ticket times. The food just takes way too long to come out. We had a 7:15pm four person table on a Sunday. The place was not more than half full, and we were still there for two hours. It’s not the first time we have had that experience from a timing perspective. It’s unfortunate because it’s a little over a mile from our house. We would go there 50% more often if the experience was even 30% faster. Given their menu this feels achievable. The restaurant was incredibly loud and felt overcrowded. Since it was a rainy evening, the garden was closed and all guests were indoors, creating a cramped atmosphere. Fortunately, they were able to accommodate our reservation for an outdoor table by giving us a spot inside. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, but unfortunately, the food didn’t meet my expectations. I ordered the rabbit jambalaya while the others in my group had burgers. By the end of the night, I found myself overwhelmed by the noise—people were quite loud, and the background music only added to the chaos. The high ceiling contributed to the sound echoing around the space.
My fiancé and I visited Pennyroyal Station earlier today after reading several reviews, so we knew what to expect. The food was fantastic! From the perfect temperature to the delicious taste and generous portion sizes, we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The service was also very pleasant. The menu is concise, which allows them to focus on and excel at every dish they serve. You definitely get great value with each order! I highly recommend opting for the 6oz PR Burger, as the portions are substantial.
I visited Pennyroyal Station on a Tuesday early evening for the first time and was very pleased with the experience. The service was excellent, and the drinks menu was impressive. I highly recommend the Green Goddess cocktail, and we also enjoyed a fried fish sandwich. The fried chicken definitely did not disappoint! With a street view of the DC line, the atmosphere felt welcoming, and the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

The food and drinks were amazing! I had a margarita off the happy hour menu and it was very tasty and balanced. The fried green tomatoes and the chicken liver pâté’ were delicious and shareable. The catfish was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. Everything was delicious, however my least favorite part of the meal was dessert. I had a delightful solo brunch at the bar on a lovely Sunday, surrounded by a charming and well-lit interior, complemented by a fantastic playlist. The shrimp and grits were tasty, although the sauce struck me as a bit greasy at first, and I wasn't a fan of its texture. However, the flavors were spot on! I’m looking forward to exploring more items on the menu!
Pennyroyal Station has quickly become one of my favorite Southern-style restaurants in the DC area. The highlight of this spot is its spacious outdoor seating and vibrant, colorful artwork adorning the building. My top pick from the menu was the chicken wings—they’re straightforward yet hearty enough to be a full meal rather than just a bar snack.
I visited Pennyroyal for brunch with my friend Nate, and we both ordered their pancakes. They came with a delicious maple syrup, but we requested extra. The jam that accompanied the pancakes was fantastic too. I highly recommend this place!

[Update: I came back for dinner, my friends and family absolutely loved it. Everything was absolutely amazing. Great atmosphere, great food and amazing service from Lilly. Found a new gem in Mount Rainer.
