When we entered the restaurant we waited for what felt like forever to be seated, but no one attended to us. Patrons stared at us as they ate their meals, and we noticed one waitress rushing around the tables with five minutes before she realised we were there. Things were off to a poor start.We were seated against a wall, and it was immediately evident the waitress was in a rush. We visited this restaurant with a group of friends as we had past this cute looking cottage on many occasions and were curious to try it out. The interior has a very cosy homely feel about it. The staff are friendly and we were made to feel welcome. The service was a bit slow as it was a busy night and there were only 2 ladies serving. Being a small "house/cottage" it can get noisy if there is a large party or two.We had all ordered different items on the menu, which has a good selection. However, as one will find out, all the dishes are basically the same, i.e, whether you order the fish, chicken, veal or steak, it will come with your meat served with a similar creamy sauce and boiled veget...
The restaurant has a very warm cosy family feel about it from the moment you walk in. The service is friendly although i feel somtimes for the waitress as there is only ever 1 waitress for entire restaurant. This means she is very rushed and you have to wait at times. The food is fresh very tasty huge portions but is more on the stodgy/heavy pre prepared side, rather than authentic light salad tastes. It lacks refinement of a restaurant ( veal scolop was tough) but tastes like it was made in 'mammas kitchen'. I am yet to try the seafood as its a little overpriced and not confident that it will be cooked well. Very nice restaurant for a filling basic pasta or meat dish.
My family and I (and friends) have been going to this Gem OF THE WEST now for over 10 years. Normally get there 5 to 6 times per year for either Lunch or Dinner. Great owners, Great Chefs , Outstanding Food. Always enjoy the Garlic Prawns because they are the best around. The mains are also outstanding and the desserts are to die for, Great service , beautiful old house, good wine list and very good value for money. Have never been disappointed there..

Our experience with this restaurant yesterday was from my point was ordinary.The meal I ordered was a seafood hot pot. It was mostly soup with a few prawns, bits of fish, couple of clams and some pieces of crab claws that was over cooked. Also what I payed was over the top indeed.My wife and friends meals were ok and they enjoyed them. Lucky my wife could not finish her meal and I finished her plate.Otherwise the service was ok.
We have been to this restaurant numerous times over the years.The food is always very good and has a very good selection on their menu as well as blackboard specials.The cannelloni is one of our favourite dishes.It also allows BYO as well as being a licensed restaurant.

Came with a group of 13 other people. The atmosphere is amazing, loud for how small the restaurant actually is. For a vegetarian the menu is limited, however what options there are, are amazing!!!! Can't wait to come back!!!!
