We live in Abram and therefore for many years we ate ours in the car outside the chippy rather than take them home and become soggy and unpalatable. A considerable travelling distance, but we were prepared to travel around 14 miles for the normally brilliant quality of the product. Things I am afraid have deteriorated substantially. The cost of our meal was normally around £13 for two portions of fish chips and one large carton of peas for me, I was astonished to be charged £19 for the exact some meal, what was even more of a disgrace is the fact that the chips are now served in an ultra small tray, at least halving the past portion size and the fish portion reduced and poorly cooked. Genuinely one of, if not thee best Chippy around Wigan . Staff are a joy, bubbly and very helpful. This place is popular and gets very busy at times so please be patient and nice to the staff. We have family members who are gluten intolerant and we really struggle around Wigan area getting GF chippy food. We always pre order as GF food is only cooked on the hour and it 's always worth the 20 mile round trip and popped into a freezer bag guarantee to stay hot until we reach home. My partner and I have just moved into this area and ordered 3 x fish chips from Pepper Lane Chippy. The staff were very friendly, kind and understanding of my current situation, (bedbound with illness), and did everything to cater for our needs. As for the food itself, it was absolutely perfect, very tasty fish, good crisp batter, lovely chips and mushy peas, what you would expect from a proper chippy. I can certainly understand why people are travelling from miles around to come here. We consider ourselves lucky to have found them and are privileged to call this our new local chippy and already look forward to coming again. Lovely area, good people, great food, 10/10
I was recommended pepper lane chip shop by a friend, really glad she did to, we don't live locally but it's definitely worth going, we eat them in the car and now go regularly, fish is nicely battered and really fresh, chips are really tasty neither the fish not the chip's are greasy, and taste like fish and chips used to, large portion we share one between the two of us also the ladies will split them into two trays for you, all the staff are very friendly and helpful, Réservez une table maintenant
I took a senior couple to this restaurant to get a simple order of chips. However, I was disappointed to find that the small tray we received for £3 contained only a single scoop of chips, which was not even a sufficient amount for one person. Considering that the restaurant purchases chips in bulk, I expected a larger portion for the price. Most other chip shops offer a much larger bag of chips for the same price, so I felt that the owner was being greedy.
Whilst travelling home we tried to call twice to order gluten free fish. We decided to turn up as they had not answered the phone. When we got there we were told We don 't do gluten free fish after 6 . I 'm not sure why as there has never been a problem before. Very sad that we won 't be visiting again as this had been one of the top spots in the north west for us to visit. We went to J Seas in Chorley instead. Yum!
I'm not the type of person who normally reviews on a regular basis but having called in Pepper Lane Chippy today totally by accident (got lost going to M6) I ordered their Gluten Free Chicken Goujons. I have to say they were absolutely gorgeous. I will definitely be returning.
