the motto of the small pizzeria is program. "once pizza at paolo - always pizza by paolo". the already over 70 years old pizza baker is a master of his craft. I have never eaten such an ingenious pizza (even not in italy). the floor is thin and crispy, the covering and the sauce are fresh and simply tasty. I'm so crazy about the pizza I'm driving 300 km for it. the service is absolutely warm. the small pizzeria with few tables is usually full. therefore you should reserve. ambiente is more rustic.
Place was totally empty during our visit. Atmosphere was rather odd, no music just owner talking with a cook, staring at us from time to time. Pizza was made in less then 5 (sic!) min after taking order. I read their menu before going there so knew how much I'm gonna pay, and unfortunately Paolo gave me total of a 2 euro more than it was in the menu. Pizza itself was very flat, and poor in terms of both taste and toppings. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Not only mediocre but overpaid.
the pizzeria pesto of paolo in the pionier street is worth a visit in any case. my personal highlight is the pizza casa with ham, spinach, beaten egg, parmesan and garlic, with slightly sharp note. Simply brilliant!The prices for the pizzas are between 5€ (margherita) and 9.50€ (parma rucola). So for düsseldorf a cheap price.The local is quite small and offers a genuine Italian ambiente.
I have known the pizzaria for many years, not least because I have lived in the neighbourhood for a few years. there are the best pizzas and salad with goat cheese. hmmmmm, the carpaccio. hmmm mittlwerweil I live in the north and also drive 350 km to eat pizza and/or my favourite salad. the mood is always good, the guests are nice, short - I feel like "to come home".
