Plato's Philosopher's Kitchen

We were reticent about going to Plato's for dinner after having not enjoyed a takeway meal a couple of months earlier. However we enjoyed the food on this occasion. The mixed seafood dish was very tasty although the circular, high-sided bowl was a little unusual (maybe it's a traditional Greek piece of crockery). A slow-cooked lamb dish was also very tasty. We ordered a brandy and dry with no ice; and it arrived with ice (we didn't complain). We also ordered a red wine by the glass. The wine wasn't poured from a bottle at the table, which I find disconcerting, and the glass was not a wine glass with a stem but a short and very round glass which was so large that it's difficult to grip. We had booked a table for 3 well in advance, the service was very poor we had to ask the waitress (only one was working that evening) to take our order 4 times when we finally received our Entrées they did not arrive together ...we did say we were sharing these...and they were very average. After waiting another hour for our mains (we again had to ask for them several times), they were not worth waiting for at all overcooked seafood marinara the cheap kind that you would buy frozen they combined this with copious amounts of over seasoned sauce.... not good. Ended up here for a late meal one night. Prices were reasonably expensive, even for Hyde Park. Sadly the food did not live up to the price - the chicken component of my meal was certainly a long way from $27 and a bit tough.Was VERY CLOSE to sending it back, but ultimately quitiiiite bad enough - and I hate wasting food. Service was good and atmosphere was good, but unfortunately food quality and value wasn't up to scratch on the night. Hopefully it was a one off.

Greek themed 30 June party started with a bang with 'create your own' yiros! All food prepared by Plato's was amazing and very reasonably priced - generously portioned too. Will be visiting again!!

A great local option for a delicious Greek food experience. The cheery atmosphere, attentive waiting staff and good food ensured a pleasant evening with friends.
