What an unexpected surprise to find Poke Wave! Upon entering, the interior actually is quite uninviting as it's very dated, dark, and furnishings are unappealing. But they do say to not judge a book by its cover, and in this case I relied on the 4.5 star Yelp review to give this place a shot. The menu is typical start with a base, select your proteins, and a number of other toppings. Their sauce selection is different from all other poke places. You choose from no spicy, less spicy and more spicy. You ask what that means basically it's ponzu, soy sauce and sesame oil then add in some variation of spicy. It's been years since my last review and this place is still one of my favorite poke spots in OC. I've been to a lot of poke places, and I love how clean and simple this place keeps their menu. The ingredients are always fresh and many of their toppings that would be extra at other places, are still included with no charge. I always get ahi tuna with the spicy sauce and the fish is consistently top notch. Ingredients are always fresh, and sauces taste great. The free miso soup is also a nice touch. Service is consistently very good, and I always enjoy coming back here. Wish there was one in Irvine!
The only poke place I really like! I thought I just didn't really like poke until I tried this place. Raw fish used to make my stomach slightly queazy but this place never does for me! As a huge plus, they have cubes of tamago as an option with their bowls/burritos which isnt something I've seen elsewhere and is one of my favorite things, and they're a great price for their quality. They used to be a bit cheaper and I was amazed, I'm kinda glad they increased the price a little bit since then lol. Each bowl/burrito comes with a free miso soup which is very nice.
