Wow! We found another seafood place that we can escape to, here! It's not a fancy schmancy restaurant so don't worry if you wear jeans and T-shirts. Just wear something. Don't come here naked and afraid. That's all. Our waitress was Gina, busy, friendly, and knew what she was doing. Other workers were well trained. They're quick to do what's next. We love steamers, so if you don't know what that is, it's a clam family, but you eat it with your hand by opening the outer part of the skin, dip it into the water on the side bowl, and then dip it into a butter cup, then eat it. We wholeheartedly agree with the numerous positive reviews already written. After dining at many restaurants on Long Island, we have found Popei's to be one of the best. The restaurant is very clean, comfortable, and charming, although it is not overly fancy. However, it offers a wide variety of beautifully prepared, fresh seafood and non-seafood dishes. We were pleased to find that nothing had a fishy smell, and everything we tried was delicious, from the appetizers to the main courses to the desserts, all at reasonable prices. Popei's was the first restaurant my wife Selene and I went to 26 years ago after moving to Long Island. We have been back there over and over with friends and family through the years and have never been disappointed. Food, staff and owner are the best. Returned St. Patrick's Day 2023 and the 14 oz. Lobster Tail special was spectacular. Even came with corned beef if you wanted. Have been there three times since and every time is better than the last. 5yrs ago was a guaranteed doggie bag. The food is good but unfortunately the portions have shrunk. The good news is the prices have risen, good news for the owners! Thank you, Joe Biden! I recently dined at this restaurant for dinner, with a price range of $30-50 per person. I give the food, service, and atmosphere all a perfect 5-star rating. I highly recommend trying the Red dish.
