Portola Coffee Roasters

I recently visited Portola Coffee Roasters and had a rather underwhelming experience. I ordered a cardamom latte and an almond butter croissant, and unfortunately, neither lived up to my expectations. Let's start with the cardamom latte. While it wasn't terrible, it fell short of being truly enjoyable. The main issue was that my latte lacked sufficient shots of espresso, resulting in a weaker coffee flavor than I had hoped for. Additionally, the drink was overly milky, which further diluted the overall taste. It would have been better balanced with a stronger espresso presence. ALWAYS ALWAYS AMAZING COFFEE. Such an underrated and amazing roaster. They're innovative and fresh. Espresso is fantastic as well as just their straight up coffee. They mix up there blends and roasts. If you want foofy drinks- they have them too, but done simple and right. Lavender or Rose Latte are delish. Recently tho I got their seasonal Autumn Spice Latte with toasted marshmallow whip... OH MY. Not usually a sweet coffee person so I only halfed the maple brown sugar syrup they make. PERFECT!!! THAT WHIP IS INSANE! It's slightly salted uuuh yurm.

I absolutely love the coffee here—it's the best! However, I've been really disappointed with the inconsistency in their hours over the past three months. There's no updated information on Google regarding store hours, and too often we've arrived to find a note on the door saying it's closed. I understand that sometimes things happen, but the frequency of these closures has become enough of an issue that the management really needs to keep customers informed, rather than just posting a note on the door.

This might be the best coffee shop I've encountered in my travels. They really understand how to make coffee, particularly the importance of letting the espresso hit the sweetener before adding milk. Plus, they don't overpower the coffee with excessive sweetener to cover up any flaws, so I never have to request a lighter sweetness. It's simply perfect coffee made from high-quality beans. I am glad to say I feel lucky to be in the area twice within 1 month because I am from San Diego. Portola Coffee has quick, friendly service, and their Oatmilk Latte is perfect! Nutty and smooth. So happy that I get to have this delicious drink again.Also this location inside OC MiX

The coffee here is enjoyable, but it has a different flavor profile than what you would find at franchises like Starbucks. It's not a strong difference in taste, but definitely distinct.
