עברית בהמשך We were in Stadtpark, so we decided to try Cafe Prueckel, which Google recommended for its famous cheesecake. The cold coffee (there was a heat wave in Vienna) was significantly cheaper than Demel or Landtman, but so was the quality. The cheesecake turned...out to be a Topfen cake, which is a sour and crumbly cheese associated with making yogurt. I actually like it, but it's definitely not your regular cheese. It had a top layer of thin tart that dried out a bit (intentionally) an interesting abrasion. The cafe is not fancy and there is no air conditioning inside. Outside there are large parasols.
There are friendlier places in Vienna with more inspiring food (Cafe Museum, for example). Cash only. Food arrived quickly enough, but the menus were basically tossed at us, at the beginning. All the traditional Viennese cuisine is offered. The melange was maybe the weakest part...of the meal. Decor could use a face-lift as well (stained couches). Recommended to us by locals, but the place is not welcoming to tourists. 3 out of 5 for decent food.
We visited a range of Vienna coffee house during our stay, both well known and lesser known: I would rate Cafe Prueckel on the lower scale: The waiters were not too over-friendly (to say the least) and service not too fast (very slow). Coffee, cakes...and pastries were not of top quality, although the pricing was on the higher end. You can find better in Vienna...

Sehr charmantes Kaffehaus am Ring nahe der U-Bahn-Station Stubenring. Das Personal ist freundlich und das Interieur ist genau so, wie man sich ein gehobenes Wiener Kaffeehaus vorstellen würde. Ich aß ein Französisches Frühstück , also ein Kipferl mit einem Stück Butter und einem kleinen Glas Marillenmarmelade, und es hat mir recht wohl geschmeckt!
We are here the first night in Vienna because we didn’t know where to go and happened upon it. We thought it was lovely. The food was tasty, the waiter young and friendly. Yes it was very casual with a limíted menu but I loved...the ambiance. We didn’t mind paying in cash.
Bei schwacher Frequentierung am Samstagabend eine halbe Stunde auf einen Zehn Euro teuren Gintonic zu warten grenzt an eine Verarschung Der Ober hatte wohl Null Bock
Sehr unhöflicher und überforderter Kellner, der sich am Nebentisch über mein freundliches Feedback beschwert. Sehr schade, aber da gehe ich nicht mehr hin.
