I had a mixed evening when dining at the Victoria and I intend to be as balanced as possible. If you suspect I 'm a serial complainer please see my previous reviews of establishments. Firstly the starter/s. The soup was amazing, home made and accompanied with warm soft bread and a decent portion of butter too. The main courses, a steak pie, a chicken pie, fish and chips and Gammon. One diner loved her steak pie, another was complimentary about the gammon too. The chips/wedges were very nice and the vegetables were fresh. The two negative comments re the main course concern portion size and the quality of the pie. The chicken pie had no chicken in it, and the fish (fish and chips) was very small, especially given the £15 price tag. The pub did replace my pie with a steak pie which was a lot better. The problem with this was that I was sat eating my main course for quite a while after others had finished theirs. There was also a couple of bits of kidney in the pie which I didn 't like but I guess these things happen if a pie is made fresh. The pub gave me £7 off the pie when I complained at the end of the meal. This is only a matter of opinion but to be honest most places would just knock the price of the pie off the bill as it 's not just about the food, it 's about the experience too. The pie was wrong, yes they replaced it, but it did lead to a less than enjoyable experience. But I didn 't really want to stand and argue that point, at least they knocked a bit off. I also didn 't particularly appreciate being told that most customers love this pie or we never have complaints about that In spite of the boasted 92% of reviews being positive about this place, there does seem to be a trend (albeit a small one) recently of people complaining about the price of the food, the size of the fish and the quantity of chicken in the pie (one review quotes). It may be worth the management taking notice of these comments instead of just saying that most people like it . Frankly if one pie contains a cube of chicken and another contains no chicken at all, people dont want to hear how so many other people like it, it 's not really relevant. Overall I 'd say this is a great pub with great beers and even cocktails on offer. The staff are friendly but get a bit edgy if you complain (see the reactions to other complaints on trip advisor). But I think the food is pricy, especially the 15 quid for a small bit of fish with some (very nice) chips. This experience left me feeling a tad disappointed as this was our last night in Llandudno and we wanted a special meal. My advice? come to this great pub for a beer or two, but be mindful of recent food reviews.
