This Chinese restaurant used to be called the Raby Bay Oriental and on it's best night could probably come up with two or three tables of customers. Dreadful food, small servings, poor service. Then the new owner arrived and wow, what a difference!Huge servings size, great tasting food, very reasonable prices and top service.The Mongolian lamb is to kill for and if two of you can get through the honey or lamb chicken you're doing a great job!The place is now full of diners most nights with lots of praise going around locally.The new name is HAOZ that are initials of the owners kids I believe, not a great idea in my opinion but I guess customers will learn ..........So, give it a go, you won'...
Let me start off by saying the staff are fantastic. Fast, polite, have the correct etiquette. Nothing was too much for them and I commend them. Clearly a family run business. The food on the other hand is what lets this establishment down, and that’s a pretty big deal when you are reviewing a restaurant. The chicken served is simply strange. It is stringy, chewy, tough, no taste. It is the most bizarre meat I have ever eaten. I am not even sure it was chicken? This is one of the better restaurants at the Raby Bay Marina precinct. Samantha (owner) could not be more friendly or obliging. Her husband does all the cooking and some of the ingredients are even from her own garden.The Peking Duck is an absolute must - perfectly crispy skin served with handmade pancakes and then the flesh served as san choy bow. It was best I've ever had. We also had the Japanese Salt and Pepper prawns. Once again perfectly cooked batter, balanced spices and succulent prawns. We have walked past this place hundreds of time and never gone in because it never has a lot of people in there, so we assumed it didn't measure up to the other restaurants in the area. We tried it out, and we were quite wrong. It was not busy, so service was relaxed, quick and efficient.I had my doubts while looking through the menu, the content was fine, but the presentation(of the menu itself) made me have doubts, but once the food started arriving, all was well. We had butterflied prawns and dim sims for entree, Mongolian beef and chicken with cashews for main- all was very good, and generous sizes.We will be back. Réservez une table maintenant
Visited this place on recommendation from friends. Maybe we struck it on a bad night. I found my wine by the glass to be just average. I had the sizzling Mongolian beef which was way too sweet for me. However others at the table raved about the sweet and sour pork and the garlic prawns. Service was rather slow. Altogether it was an average suburban resturant. Would definitely give it another go.
We had dinner here recently while down at Cleveland. The entrees were okay but nothing outstanding. For the main meal the sizzling Mongolian lamb and the scallops in garlic were quite delicious and good size portions. The location is very good as we have eaten at other restaurants in this area of the harbourside marina. The service was also okay.
I have eaten at Rabi Bay Oriental on many occasions and enjoyed every meal. The owner Samantha is an amazing hostess who makes every visit one to remember. Unfortunately, on my last visit to Rabi bay I discovered the restaurant had closed, now I am delighted to see they are still in business just moved to a different location, whew!
