We have been going to this cafe since 2004, just to get the apple strudle and coffee. They do lots of other very fancy cakes so all tastes will be catered for. They also do more substantial meals if you want more. A pot of Coffee for one and a piece of apple strudle works out at about 8 euros, so it's not that cheap but well worth it. If you can get a seat by the window, the cafe is on the edge of the town square and you can people watch for ages.
This is a delightful cafe in main square in Cochem. The staff are lovely and speak good English. The hot chocolate in delicious and comes in pretty china pots and I am told by my fellow travellers the coffee is excellent too. They have some amazing delicious cakes to purchase and consume. We also had a small lunch of toasted cheese and ham sandwiches, my husband had the soup which was very hearty and tasty, just right on a cold day.
Stopped here for coffee and to ample Strudel with cream. Was not dissapointed.. Strudel was a good sized portion and most enjoyable accompanied by excellent coffee. Surroundings are very cmfortable and pleasant. Staff were very good. There is a very nice cake shop within this facility which also sells chocolates. A bonus !!
The Rathaus Cafe is a charming place at the Market Square in the historic centre of the city. Typical warm German interior, friendly people, good food (we both had gulaschsuppe with a Bitburger beer) and reasonable prices... A good stop while visiting the beautiful city of Cochem...
