Recent Edit 2024: This place has sadly gone downhill since my review. A couple of months ago the food completely changed and I have stopped going. Last time I was there there were jalapenos? in dishes that shouldn't even have any peppers in them. I hope they sort themselves out at some point. I spent years only going to Red Pearl and now have had to explore other options (great wall seems to be the best). (Below is outdated) Probably the best Chinese restaurant within 3 hours driving of Birmingham. Some of the best dishes are the soups (all of them), the lo mien, and the fried rice noodles. Dine-in experience on Memorial Day with pleasant wait staff, good hot food and plenty of it. We were tired of bbq so me and 3 friends met at Red Pearl. I like going there to eat about once a month so I can pick up my Asian “staple” foods (like kefir leaves, bok choy, gochujang sauce, etc. at the adjoining market. Used to bring my 2 kids to the market and they knew they had to be calm and stay with me inside but my daughter LOVED the candy section and all the cute tea service dishes. My son thought the eels and other fish were cool, but once I opened a cooler door and there was a goat head inside. Great place to eat and shop, but they really don’t like it when you scream in the market. :
Love this place, the market, and the restaurant. I usually get their food 2-3 times per month, since it's far from my home. The disappointing part is that the quality of the food dishes has dropped in the past year. On top of that, the dish's price keeps going up. For example, my favorite dish cost $10.99 in 2021, and now it's $15.99. One dish I would always get would be these wide long rice noodles, the length and width of a 12-inch ruler. Now it looks like they are using basic fettuccine noodles and cutting them into 2-inch lengths.
The food is good but the service is not. This restaurant is completely unprofessional and scamming people. I ordered a to go meal and paid. Then the next day the waitress added a 16 dollar tip to my meal. Please be aware days after you leave this restaurant. It takes 3 days for them to process the payments and they add their own tips to the meals and before you ask. Yes I did tip originally but it was 3 dollars. It was a to-go order and only 1 meal. I called this place and they told me that’s my problem and and not theirs. Réservez une table maintenant
I’ve been here three times and I like the food it satisfied my urge. The service was very very slow. I would not recommend dining in if you only have 30min. I had six people in my group and it seemed like we each were charged for something that we didn’t order. I think there was a communication issue, please become more fluent in English.
