I must say that this little unpretentious refuge restaurant was great![hidden link] We were staying in Vars resort but happened to stop by this Refuge on our way to an Igloo activity. We actually did not go to the Igloo dinner we had planned initially as we were quite intrigued by the amazing menu Refuge Napoleon offered. And we were VERY happy we decided to change our plans! The crew at the Refuge is extremely nice, they love what they do and they were so warm and welcoming. The dinner was a wonderful surprise considering all the restaurants in Vars (and surrounding resorts offer the same old mountain specialties (raclette, fondue, etc... . The chef is a young woman who managed to impress 4 people who travel a lot and have 4 different nationalities! Everything is homemade with bio ingredients and I loved how I could actually taste each item in my plate and how it all seemed to come together beautifully. We tasted fabulous dishes such as a rich venison stew, beets and nuts purée, fois gras ravioli in an out of this world broth, a quince and apple crumble, a creme brulée with violet essence, a chocolate soufflé and many other delicious courses. I will also add that all 4 of us had an aperitif, a main course, wine and a dessert and the price per person was of 30 Euros. Considering how good the dinner was compared to what we had discovered the previous nights in other Vars restaurants, this was also a wonderful surprise. We tend to travel to the French Alps very often and I look forward to visiting again! Soon!
“Storybook Mountain Drive” with dear friend Elisa and new friend Andrea, who chauffeuered us in his beautifully preserved 1963 Reault up, up, up from Cesana/SanSicario to this gem of a roadside restaurant/gathering spot. The weather on this Saturday was spectacular, and hundreds of bikers and hikers were certainly taking advantage of the climate and climb. Staff were friendly and most entertaining, especially with the chalkboard menu presentation. Food and beverage were fortifying and refreshing. Simply a delight to go along with an unforgettable journey in Andrea’s “baby.” Merci, All!
