Don’t judge a restaurant by its location. It is only out of necessity that I would venture out to Takoma Park, especially for good cuisine, when there’s plenty to enjoy in the District. Over the years, I’ve tried Republic and I wasn’t really that impressed. But on my recent visit to TPK, we checked out Republic again, keeping an open mind that perhaps they’ve gotten better. Well, they have! I only went for happy hour and the plates we ordered were delicious. We had fish tacos, pork bao, Aperol Spritz, and a margarita. I looked over to the other diners at the bar area and their foods looked amazing, too. I do like that this place has an outdoor patio that is dog-friendly. The service is good...
I had a fantastic Cinco de Mayo celebration with my sister. I made shrimp tacos that were incredible! The rock steak was very flavorful and came with a delicious sauce, and they even made an extra half portion just for us! The Korean fried chicken was delicious and so tender, with a delightful seafood coating. We also decided to add oysters because, why not? They were freshly delicious. Julio was an amazing bartender, always ready with another drink, and the setting was great. Francisco was also wonderful and worked hard all night, even though he was a bit shy. This was my first time here, but it definitely won't be my last!
We wanted an outside table but the wait was too long. We had oysters at the bar and they were tasty. We ended up inside. Menu is on the smallish side but there is a little something for everyone. I had the veggie platter my friend had the fish. It was tasty. Had brunch here also. Was busy but not too crowded they have a back deck that is partially shaded. There is street parking and parking behind the restaurant. The happy hour menu is only available at the bar during brunch. Try the biscuits!
I want to like this place because it’s a local business but the service is usually extremely slow and the food is just okay nothing amazing. This most recent visit was the slowest it’s ever been we arrived and sat at 7:55 pm, put drinks and an order of oysters in and weren’t visited by our waiter again to place our orders until 8:48 pm. The oysters we ordered when we arrived didn't come until 9:02 pm. If you don’t mind waiting more than an hour to eat average food, this is the place for you. Réservez une table maintenant
I absolutely love this place! The happy hour is a highlight for me, especially when I get to enjoy the oysters. The staff is incredibly friendly, and even though I was mistakenly informed about the happy hour times, they honored the happy hour prices for my food, which I thought was really generous. Ian is also a great guy!
I absolutely love dining here! Every time I've been, I've had a wonderful experience. The drinks are fantastic, the oysters are incredibly fresh, the staff is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is vibrant. If anyone is considering a visit, I guarantee they'll discover something they'll enjoy!
Another good dining option in Takoma. Large indoor bar and dining room tables, some with plush sofas to enjoy your meal. The outdoor alley has always been our choice for dining on nice days, and it has been expanded due to the pandemic. Cannot go wrong with happy hour options every day!
