Restaurant La Hulotte Au Lion D'or

We visited for dinner for the third time last month and our experience was as good as on the two other occasions we have dined there. We initially discovered the place purely by chance when we were visiting the Chimay out of season and needed somewhere to eat. We all ate from the 20 euro menu. Fantastic. Based on this experience we returned last year whilst on our way back from the Alps. Again, the food was really to notch. So whilst we were back in the area last month we dined there again. This time we ate from the 20 and 21 euro menus as well as from the carte. On every occasion the food and service has been really very good. The presentation and taste of the dishes is really exceptional for the price point. The desserts are also exceptional. I would venture to say that this is one of our very favourite places to eat in France. It may be a bit off of the beaten path but it is well worth searching it out if you want a truely traditional French dining experience

My wife and I visited this restaurant when on holiday in the north of France. The atmosphere is cosy, a little medieval. Nice detail are the owls that occur in many forms throughout the interior.The food is French and thus good. A nice amuse, a tasty entree (coquilles St. Jacques), and a perfectly cooked peppersteak as a main. Or as my wife had, a large and well cooked sole. And finally a nice desert. All accompanied with fitting wines. In short, a nice surprise in this part of France, which is not to crowded with tourists.

Having driven for 10 hours and not booked, it was lay evening not only was s room available but we were offered the set menu. The scallops andlambwere beautiful and the 3 desserts we chose were beautiful. Best meal we had on a 3 week tour of Europe

We had a more than decent meal (set menu, with quite feasible veggy variants; à la carte possible) for a more than reasonable price.
